What to Wear to the Longines Global Champions Tour in Cairo

The Longines Global Champions Tour makes its Egyptian debut at the Great Pyramids of Giza from October 22nd to 24th, bringing the world's foremost showjumpers to a country where horses have figured in the cultural imagination for millennia. The Cairo leg presents a question of considerably less athletic consequence, though no less deserving of attention: what to wear?

Fashion has long entertained a fascination with the equestrian world, borrowing its uniforms, its aristocratic associations and its particular talent for making practical clothing appear impossibly expensive. One needn't know a stirrup from a saddle to appreciate the appeal.

Our moodboard takes certain liberties with the tradition. Ralph Lauren's rugby stripes meet Loro Piana's quiet extravagance; Farah Seif's easy silhouettes find company in Waseem Khadra's tailoring. There are equestrian allusions from Okhtein, jewellery from Jude Benhalim, Bottega Veneta and Cartier, and shoes selected with the understanding that spectators, unlike horses, may object to spending an afternoon on their feet.

At the centre of each look sits a Longines watch, whether the Mini DolceVita, PrimaLuna, HydroConquest or Ultra-Chron Carbon. The horses, naturally, will be judged on their timing. The rest of us have the luxury of making an impression.
