Egypt’s First Sustainable Coal Composter in Sharqiya’s AlTalin Village
The project moves away from traditional coal composting processes, which can be hazardous to workers and the environment alike.

In Sharqia’s Al Talin village lies the first eco-friendly coal composter in Egypt. Initiated by coal exporter Selim Raafat to move away from traditional coal composting processes, which can be hazardous to workers and the environment alike, the project was chosen for the Ministry of Environment’s National Initiative for Sustainable Entrepreneur due to its capacity to transform coal’s toxic gas emissions into fuel. The project also produces higher-quality coal with 85% carbon, in line with international standards, unlike traditionally composted coal which is only 60% carbon.
