Fourth Talgo Train Officially Begins Operations on Cairo-Aswan Line
The fourth high-speed Talgo train will officially begin making daily runs from Cairo to Aswan starting March 29th.
The Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA) announced that the fourth high-speed Talgo train has officially started making daily runs on the Cairo-Aswan line starting March 29th.
This train is part of a EUR 157 million contract between the Egyptian Ministry of Transport signed with the Spanish railway giants in 2019, which included the provision of six Talgo trains. The first of these trains started operating on the Cairo-Luxor line on January 27th, 2023.
Each train consists of five air-conditioned first-class railcars, eight air-conditioned second-class railcars, a caboose, an engine and power car. The vehicles include a number of modern amenities, including entertainment systems and seats that are suitable for people with special needs. The trains are also made of aluminium, which makes them lighter, helps extend their life spans and reduces fuel consumption.
The fourth Talgo train is set to make stops in Giza, Asuit, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Edfu, and Kom Ombo. The fifth train is scheduled to begin operations sometime in the beginning of April.
