The Orman Garden and the Giza Zoo - the most famous zoo in Egypt, and the first modern zoo to be built in Africa - are both closed as of today, 9th of July, for 18 months as they undergo major renovations.
The Giza Zoo will turn into an open-range facility with no cages, with the zoo and its animals properly guarded with designated visiting trails. Meanwhile, the Orman Garden will be receiving a gondola lift that will connect it directly with the Giza Zoo.
The botanical garden and the zoo are historically linked, since they were both built by Khedive Ismail and inaugurated at the same time, and soon it will be literally linked as well.
The National Military Production Company and the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation have an established usufruct which will lead the renovations.
