A team from the Department of Geology in Helwan University's Faculty of Sciences has won the right to represent Africa in IMAGE 2022, an international conference discussing geophysics and energy that will run from August 28th to September 1st in Houston, Texas.
Dubbing themselves 'Geopharaohs', the team - made up of students Salsabil Ayman, Abdulrahman Ali, Basem Chikiban and Tarek Khalifa, and led by Associate Professor Adel Kotb - has participated in the Society of Exploration Geophysicists' (SEG) international EVOLVE programme, which helped teams from around the globe develop industrial skills through real experience in the field.
At IMAGE 2022, which is also hosted by SEG alongside the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Geopharaohs will put those skills to the test, competing against 11 other international teams to examine a specific area and determine where and how much oil and gas can be extracted from it, while creating a workable model to limit CO2 emissions that are associated with oil extraction.
