Mayar Sherif Becomes Highest Ranked Women’s Tennis Player in Egypt
Mayar Sherif became the 40th best player in the world after emerging victorious at the WTA 125 Makarska Open in Croatia.

Egyptian tennis champion Mayar Sherif just rose to 40th place in the Women’s Tennis Association’s (WTA) global singles rankings, becoming the highest-ranked Egyptian player in the history of women’s tennis.
Mayar Sherif achieved her highest career ranking after emerging victorious at the WTA 125 Makarska Open in Croatia, where she defeated Italian player Jasmine Paolini. This is Sherif’s first WTA 125 win of the year, after earning three of those titles in the previous season.
Earlier this May, Mayar Sherif won her first match against one of the top five players in the world, Caroline Garcia, at the 2023 Madrid Open.
