The National Telecommunications Regulations Authority has imposed a 10% customs tax on all imported mobile phones. The decision was made after Parliament approved a presidential decree that looks to support Egypt’s industry.
The Ministry of Finance has lauded the move, saying that it will encourage investment in Egyptian manufacturers, and nurture competition in the local market.
Computers and tablets are excluded from the tax, as they are considered essentialtools for digital transformation and the development of Egypt’s educational system.
