After two years of closure, the Rashid National Museum - located in the city of Rashid, also known as Rosetta, in the Beheira governorate - will undergo an extensive renovation project. The renovation project will target the ceilings of the museum while developing its exhibition spaces, lights, and security system.
The museum has undergone numerous renovation and development projects in the past. In 2009, it was expanded to include an open museum display, administrative offices, a seminar hall, a tourism and antiquities police unit, as well as service annexes.
The Rashid National Museum includes a large collection of items and artefacts that reflect the history of Rashid, including significant records of the city’s struggles against English and French colonialism. The Rashid National Museum contains over 776 items, including a copy of the Rosetta Stone, which was famously found by French soldiers at the nearby Fort Julien in 1799.
