WORD | TÄRA - Mezzaluna

In this episode of SceneNoise’s video series, ‘WORD’, Palestinian-Italian artist TÄRA breaks down the story behind her latest hit song, ‘Mezzaluna’. The title, which is an Italian word for ‘half-moon’, reflects her experience of growing up between two cultures, and the ways that duality has shaped her perspective and sonic identity.

‘Mezzaluna’ is a pop anthem that blends Middle Eastern instrumentation and Italian folk elements with contemporary pop sensibilities, creating a sound as layered as the story behind it.

From a childhood window at her grandmother’s house to the symbolism of the crescent moon, Tara explains how her memory, culture and personal reflection come together in the song. She also opens up about her struggle with that sense of incompleteness due to living in the diaspora, and how she is slowly learning to embrace it, and recognise that these ‘in-between’ spaces are just part of her becoming.
