Monochrome Monday: Caterpillar Green
This week’s edit takes fashion’s most unlikely green from experimental dressing to couture glamour.
Some colours are born to flatter. Others exist to challenge the very idea of what flattering should look like. Caterpillar Green belongs firmly to the latter. Acidic, almost fluorescent and hovering somewhere between yellow and green, it carries none of the familiar elegance of emerald or the practicality of olive. Yet fashion has always been drawn to the slightly uncomfortable. From the audacity of chartreuse evening gowns to the neon experiments of the runway, these peculiar greens have a way of making even the most traditional silhouettes feel suddenly contemporary.
The appeal lies in the contrast. Elie Saab translates the shade into draped silk, while Vanina gives it the architectural volume of Mikado. Double A approaches it through leather, and Andrea Wazen takes it into towering, crystal-embellished platforms. Okhtein and Cult Gaia bring a sculptural sensibility to accessories, while Rasha Pasha offers a more playful interpretation. Caterpillar Green might sound like an unlikely candidate for a sophisticated wardrobe, but perhaps that is exactly why fashion finds it so compelling.
