Drone Delivery Service Unveiled in Dubai
The drones are designed to navigate various city landscapes and boost Dubai's economy while improving healthcare delivery.
A new drone delivery system has been rolled out in Dubai, which is planned to cover a third of the city by 2030.
The service officially launched this week, after HH Sheikh Hamdan, the Crown Prince of Dubai, placed the first order from the Rochester Institute of Technology-Dubai (RIT-Dubai), one of the designated landing spots. Keeta Drone, which falls under Meituan's umbrella, is the company leading the charge, having recently received approval from the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority.
These drones come packed with tech-flight control systems, low-noise propellers and multi-sensor positioning. They can soar up to 100 metres, travel 3 kilometres, and clock speeds of 22 metres per second.
Among the organisations that have partnered with this new service is Fakeeh University Hospital, which indicates how the service may be used to expedite delivery for medical purposes, such as the swift delivery of plasma.
