Author Mervat Mohsen Launches New Book at Sheikh Zayed’s Bibliothek

Author and former media figure Mervat Mohsen hosted a launch event for her new historical novel, ‘Era of Nitocris’, at Bibliothek in Sheikh Zayed’s Arkan.

The novel reimagines Nitocris, an enigmatic figure in ancient Egypt, as she battles for legitimacy and control through sorcery amidst the chaos following the death of Pharaoh Pepi II. The narrative delves into power struggles, magical confrontations, and the resilience of Egyptian women across time.

During the event, Mohsen spoke about the novel’s themes of empowerment and the importance of Egyptian storytellers reclaiming their narratives. A book signing followed, offering readers the chance to connect with the author. Mohsen, who holds a PhD in English and Comparative Literature and taught at the American University in Cairo for 18 years, brings intellectual depth to her storytelling.

Mohsen is also the mother of Rahma Zein, the journalist and activist who gained prominence during the early months of the Israeli invasion of Gaza in 2023.
