Cairo University Rises 82 Places in January 2026 Webometrics Ranking

Cairo University has ranked 405th globally in the January 2026 edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, marking a significant rise in its international standing.

The position reflects an advance of 82 places since July 2025, when the university was ranked 487th worldwide, and a total improvement of 132 places over the past year.

The ranking, issued twice annually in January and July, evaluates more than 32,000 universities worldwide and places Cairo University first nationally among Egyptian institutions in the latest edition. According to the university, the improvement follows the rollout of its 2025–2030 strategic plan and the implementation of an artificial intelligence strategy.

Measures cited include upgrades to the university’s official website, higher-quality academic content, and growth in the number of highly cited researchers indexed on Google Scholar.

The university also pointed to an increase in research papers ranked within the top 10% by citations in the SCImago database, alongside expanded support for open-access publishing and knowledge transparency. Additional steps included encouraging international publication and strengthening academic partnerships, as part of wider efforts to enhance Cairo University’s global research presence.
