Cinema Akil Reopens With Reel Palestine Fest & Indie Film Screenings

Dubai-based arthouse theatre Cinema Akil has reopened after a brief two-week break, with a fresh line-up of films and events.

First up is ‘Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo’, a new Egyptian film that offers a look at life in Cairo, where a young man, his mother and their dog face eviction. ‘My Favourite Cake’, an Iranian slice-of-life film, tells the story of a 70-year-old woman rediscovering romance in a single life-changing night.

From January 24th to February 2nd, the Alserkal venue will host the Reel Palestine Film Festival as part of the Quoz Arts Fest, showcasing Palestinian narratives.

Meanwhile, 25hours Hotel will feature free screenings throughout January, including the 1957 US classic ‘12 Angry Men’, the drama ‘Aida Returns’ about a mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s, the part-documentary ‘Four Daughters’, and ‘R21 AKA Restoring Solidarity’, a film about historic Japanese activism for Palestine. Free admission at 25hours requires reservations.
