‘A Surgeon and a Maverick: The Life and Pioneering Work of Magdi Yacoub’ is a new book released by the American University in Cairo Press that celebrates the life of the famed Egyptian heart surgeon.
The biography illuminates the momentous career of Sir Magdi Yacoub, chronicling his formative years working in Britain, his various roles serving communities around the globe, and finally the formation of his Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation and research institute in Aswan, Egypt.
The 446-page biography is the first authorised biography written by veteran British journalists Simon Pearson and Fiona Gorman, and was put together after conducting 25 hours of interviews with Sir Magdi Yacoub, his family, friends, colleagues and ex-patients.
