Photo of the Week: Muhammad Alruwaitea

In a flower nursery in Tabuk, photographer Muhammad Alruwaitea found his attention drawn not to the blooms themselves, but to a man working among them, holding a bundle of colourful long-stemmed flowers. The photograph turns that everyday scene into a study of the connection between people and the natural environments they move through.

Drawn to the tactile quality of film photography, Alruwaitea’s practice explores the relationships between people, place and memory. His work often lingers on everyday encounters, landscapes and quiet details, preserving scenes that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

Where and when was this image taken?

This photograph was taken while I was visiting a flower nursery in Tabuk, Saudi in 2023.

Why did you choose this particular image?

I chose this image because it reflects the way I approach photography and my interest in connecting people with their surroundings and exploring how the presence of a person can often change our perception of a setting. Instead of isolating the beauty of the flowers, I wanted to include the person who was a part of their world.

The image is a reminder that the environment isn’t simply landscapes or natural elements, but also the people who live, work and interact within it.
