In celebration of World Poetry Day on March 21st, the Poets Forum will kick off on March 24th. This year’s edition of the forum is dedicated to the late poet Salah Abdel Sabour. A large number of poetry events will be held in parallel at the headquarters of the Supreme Council of Culture and in multiple cities across the nation, including Mansoura, Beni Suef, Damanhour, Sharm El Sheikh, Port Said and Luxor.
Salah Abdel Sabour was one of the main drivers behind the free verse poetry movement in Egypt, most famously for his 1956 collection ‘Al Nas fi Biladi’. Also an accomplished playwright and essayist, he got his start in journalism before becoming the undersecretary at the Ministry of Culture. To honour the 40th anniversary of his passing, the Poets Forum is just one of the cultural events organized by the Ministry of Culture in his name.
