1,106 Egyptian Scientists Included in Stanford's Top 2% List
Compiled by Stanford University with Elsevier, the 2025 list uses Scopus-based citation indicators covering work through the end of 2024.

Around 1,106 Egyptian scientists were included in Stanford University’s 2025 'Top 2% Scientists' database, compiled in partnership with Elsevier.
The National Research Centre led domestic institutions with 100 names, followed by Cairo University with 76, Ain Shams University with 58, and Al-Azhar University with 42. Benha University contributed 25 scholars, while Damietta University contributed eight, alongside dozens more from institutions nationwide.
The database uses Scopus records and citation indicators to measure research output and impact through the end of 2024. It applies standardised metrics including total citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted impact, and a composite score that captures both career-long and single-year performance.
Covering all fields from medicine and engineering to social sciences and humanities, the database evaluates more than 200,000 researchers worldwide. The 2025 edition indicates that scientists based in the United States account for over 30% of those listed, followed by researchers from China, the United Kingdom, Germany and India.
