‘100 Million Trees’ Project Begins Planting at Cairo Ring Road
The project involves the use of sustainable irrigation methods, including treated wastewater, to maintain the newly planted trees.
The Ministry of Local Development has officially commenced the ‘100 Million Trees’ greenification project along the Greater Cairo Ring Road in collaboration with the governorates of Cairo, Giza, and Qalyubia.
Key locations along the Ring Road and main transport axes have been identified for afforestation. The project involves the use of sustainable irrigation methods, including treated wastewater, to maintain the newly planted trees. It aims to enhance air quality, reduce temperatures, and improve the visual landscape along the selected routes.
First launching across Egypt in 2022, the ‘100 Million Trees’ initiative is being implemented in coordination with the Ministries of Environment, Housing, Utilities, and Agriculture, as well as local authorities in the three governorates.
