140 Metro Stations to be Established in Dubai by 2040

New plans have been announced to more than double the number of trams and metro stations in Dubai by 2040.

Dubai is currently home to 55 metro stations and 11 tram stations. The new initiative will increase the number of metro stations to 96 by 2030 covering 140 kilometres, and to 140 stations covering 228 kilometres by 2040.

The wider blueprint aspires to turn Dubai into a ‘20-minute city’, that is a city capable of being traversed in all directions in no more than 20 minutes. The project further hopes to increase the share of public transport to 45% in order to reduce carbon emissions.
