7,200 Smart Infrastructure Projects Underway in Riyadh

More than 7,200 smart infrastructure projects are underway in Riyadh as part of a wide-ranging urban transformation designed to position the Saudi capital for Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup 2034.

The programme includes expanding service networks to over 800,000 km, installing or renewing 11.4 million smart meters, and accelerating project licensing, which grew from 71,000 in 2017 to 151,000 in 2024. The target is to reach 200,000 licences by the end of 2025.

Oversight of these developments is coordinated by the Major Projects and Events Support Office, which manages project alignment, resolves conflicts between service providers, and works to enhance quality of life across the city.

During the Global Infrastructure Forum and Exhibition in Riyadh, officials highlighted progress in smart mobility, sustainable planning, and digital adoption. Agreements were also signed to expand project management capacity and support innovation in infrastructure delivery.
