88,000 Trucks Exit Saudi Arabia to GCC in March

Saudi Arabia’s land customs ports recorded 88,109 outbound truck movements to Gulf Cooperation Council countries between March 1st and March 25th, according to the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority.

The Al-Bat’ha crossing accounted for the highest volume of outbound traffic to the UAE, with 41,229 trucks. The King Fahd Causeway ranked second with 13,486 movements, followed by the Salwa crossing with 11,227 trucks.

Routes to Kuwait recorded 10,437 trucks via Al-Khafji crossing and around 5,255 via Al-Raq’e crossing, while the Empty Quarter crossing handled 6,475 trucks during the same period.

The figures were released alongside a package of measures introduced on March 26th during an extraordinary meeting of GCC transport ministers, aimed at strengthening regional logistics integration and maintaining supply chain continuity.

The measures include raising the permitted operational lifespan of trucks in Saudi Arabia to 22 years, including those entering from GCC countries, and allowing refrigerated trucks from GCC states to enter empty to transport outbound goods.

Authorities also announced the creation of GCC storage and redistribution zones at King Abdulaziz Port, with exemptions from storage fees for up to 60 days on GCC imports and exports.

Additional steps include expanding container corridors to Red Sea ports such as Jeddah Islamic Port, increasing shipping connectivity, and enabling combined land–air transport solutions.
