Abu Dhabi Biobank Opens for Early Detection & Personalised Care

A new biobank has been launched in Abu Dhabi to support earlier disease detection and more personalised healthcare through integrated biological and health data.
The platform, developed by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi in partnership with M42, connects biological samples with genomic, lifestyle and clinical information to enable population-scale insights and targeted interventions.
Located in Masdar City, the facility operates within a net-zero environment and has the capacity to store more than 100,000 cord blood samples and up to five million biological samples.
The launch introduces two main capabilities: a pan-human biobank that integrates longitudinal clinical, genomic and lifestyle data, and a national eye bank designed to enhance local transplantation capacity and reduce reliance on imported tissue.
Officials said the system is built to continuously integrate biological samples with real-world health data, drawing from a population that represents more than 200 nationalities.
