Abu Dhabi Judiciary Introduces Facial Recognition Technology

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department has begun implementing facial recognition technology to process legal transactions, introducing biometric verification as an alternative to digital signatures. The department described the move as the first of its kind by a judicial authority in the region.
The initial rollout applies to power of attorney procedures for lawyers, allowing approvals to be completed through smart devices without the need for traditional digital signatures. The system enables remote verification while maintaining identity assurance through facial recognition and validation against official government records.
According to the department, the platform encrypts biometric data and conducts real-time checks against authorised databases to confirm identity. The measure is intended to enhance security standards while streamlining processes for legal practitioners who regularly require power of attorney approvals.
