Al-Ahram Street Closure Begins for El Matbaa Metro Construction
The detour and closure are expected to last around three months.
Authorities in Giza have announced a full closure of Al-Ahram Street heading from Giza Square beginning Friday, November 28th, 2025. The detour and closure are expected to last around three months — a period during which major infrastructure works will be carried out at El Matbaa Metro Station. Once completed, the station is expected to improve transit connections across Greater Cairo via Metro Line 4. To ease potential congestion, vehicles travelling from Giza Square towards the Archaeological Area and Midan El Remaya will be rerouted. The designated detour sends drivers right onto Hassan Mohamed Street, then left onto Al-Leithi Street, and onward through Khalil Ibrahim Street to reach El Arish Street. The Giza Traffic Department said it will deploy traffic officers and relevant signage to guide drivers along the temporary routes. Additional safety measures and technical equipment will be put in place near the construction zone to ensure driver and pedestrian safety during the works.
