Content Creators in the UAE Now Require an Advertiser Permit

There is a new rule in the UAE for anyone posting promotional content on social media: get a permit first. This includes paid and unpaid ads, and applies to both residents and visiting content creators. The rule takes effect after a three-month grace period starting July 30th.

Visitors must apply for a three-month Visitor Advertiser Permit through a UAE-approved agency, which can be renewed once. The standard permit will be issued free for the first three years and is required for all individuals engaged in digital advertising, whether they represent themselves, a brand, or a client.

Those under 18 involved in awareness, educational or cultural content are exempt, but their activities must follow the legal age classification. Individuals promoting their own products or businesses through personal accounts are also exempt.

Permits must be linked to the registered social media account, and the permit number clearly shown. No one is allowed to lend out their registered accounts to others for advertising purposes. Only accounts registered with the Media Council can post advertisements legally.

Content creators have until October 30th to comply. After that, the permit becomes mandatory.
