Coral Beach Resort Sharjah Signs Glasgow Climate Tourism Declaration
The declaration targets a 50% emissions cut by 2030 and net-zero before 2050, with five pathways: Measure, Decarbonize, Regenerate, Collaborate and Finance.
Coral Beach Resort Sharjah has been recognised as the first hotel in the UAE to sign the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, a global initiative aimed at reducing carbon emissions across the tourism sector.
Launched during the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2021, the declaration aligns industry participants around cutting emissions by 50% by 2030 and reaching net-zero before 2050.
As part of the commitment, the resort will submit a climate action plan within 12 months, structured around five pathways: measuring emissions, decarbonisation, regeneration, collaboration and financing. The process also includes annual progress reporting and the sharing of best practices across the sector.
The recognition builds on the resort’s sustainability efforts, which were acknowledged at the Sharjah International Travel & Tourism Forum Awards 2025 under the Sustain Sharjah category, presented by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority.
The award highlighted initiatives across six areas: climate, waste, culture, water, nature and education, including waste management systems, on-site water bottling, energy efficiency measures, recycling programmes and tree-planting activities.
The Glasgow Declaration brings together tourism stakeholders to coordinate climate action efforts, with participating organisations committing to measurable emissions reductions and sector-wide collaboration.
