Dar al-Iftaa Launches Journalist Training on Religious Reporting
Dar al-Iftaa’s new training initiative looks to equip journalists with the tools to report on fatwas and religious matters ethically, promoting informed coverage and curbing misinformation.

Dar al-Iftaa has announced the launch of a specialised training programme for journalists covering religious and fatwa-related affairs, as part of a broader push to support media professionalism in the wake of recent reforms to religious discourse.
The five-day programme, set to begin in June, seeks to improve accuracy and ethics in religious reporting, particularly in response to Egypt’s newly approved fatwa law, which limits the issuance of fatwas to designated authorities.
Held under the slogan ‘Professional Media for Rational Fatwa Discourse’, the training will include sessions led by scholars, legal experts, and media professionals. Participants will be introduced to key jurisprudential principles, protocols for verifying religious information, and best practices in digital and data journalism. Additional modules will focus on strengthening communication between journalists and official religious institutions.
The initiative is supported by the Journalists Syndicate, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, and the National Media Authority, and is part of an effort to reduce the spread of unauthorised or politicised religious commentary in public and digital spheres.
