Dubai RTA Launches Taxi-Sharing Service Between Dubai & Abu Dhabi
The new service is expected to lower costs by as much as 75% compared to solo taxi fares.
In a bid to enhance mobility options and reduce traffic congestion, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a new taxi-sharing pilot service, which will last six months, allowing passengers to share rides between Dubai’s Ibn Battuta Centre and Abu Dhabi’s Al Wahda Centre.
The RTA designed the shared taxi initiative to benefit frequent commuters by offering a more cost-effective alternative for those traveling between the two emirates. When four passengers share a single taxi, each rider will pay AED 66, which can lower costs by as much as 75% compared to solo taxi fares. In other shared configurations, fares adjust accordingly: two passengers share a fare of AED 132 per person, while three passengers pay AED 88 each. Riders can pay with bank cards or RTA’s nol cards.
By consolidating multiple passengers into a single vehicle, the RTA aims to cut down on traffic congestion and carbon emissions, contributing to a greener, cleaner environment. Additionally, the service addresses unlicensed transportation by offering a regulated, high-standard alternative.
This six-month pilot program will serve as a test case, with a potential for expansion to additional routes based on its success.
