Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum - Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai - has announced the establishment of the new Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority, which will aim to promote sustainable practices across all sectors, preserve biodiversity, and expand the Emirate’s natural reserves and green spaces.
The newly established authority is in line with the UAE’s plans to double green spaces by 2033, and achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
Plans under the new authority will also aim to push the city into the top 10 rankings for leading sustainable cities by 2033, ensuring the resilience of Dubai against future climate challenges by optimising the use of local resources and accelerating the development of the green economy, as well as prioritising water conservation and adopting sustainable waste management policies.
