EGP 10.2 Billion New Sinai Development Projects Announced

As Egypt observes the 52nd anniversary of the October War, the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation (MOPEDIC) announced new development projects across Sinai, focusing on infrastructure, health, education, and services. The move underscores ongoing efforts to boost living standards and integrate Sinai more fully into Egypt’s national growth. More than 20 major projects have already been completed in Sinai since 2014 under a government programme. The new plans aim to build or upgrade hospitals in Rafah and Nakhil (North Sinai), and in Abu Rudeis, Dahab, Saint Catherine, and Taba (South Sinai). The El-Arish General, Sheikh Zuweid, Baghdad, and Romana hospitals will also be renovated. Education projects cover expansion and refurbishment across aging schools, technical colleges, and facilities in multiple towns. In South Sinai, a new branch of Salman bin Abdulaziz University is slated for construction. Water and infrastructure upgrades are central to the plan. A desalination plant in East Port Said is set to produce 150,000 cubic meters of water daily, while the Al-Mahsama triple-treatment plant, east of the Suez Canal, is designed to reclaim 250 million square meters of land and generate jobs. In Sinai, authorities will expand pipelines and treatment facilities to ensure daily water supplies — including targeting 80,000 cubic meters per day for local communities in the south. Among service improvements is the near-completion of Egypt’s first Egypt Services Centre in Arish, which will offer more than 150 government services — from civil status to traffic — all under one roof. Financial commitments were also detailed: North Sinai is to receive EGP 6.6 billion, while South Sinai will receive EGP 3.6 billion for the 2025–2026 period, covering transport, energy, and public infrastructure sectors.
