EU & AFD Signs $62 Million Deal to Back Green Industry Shift in Egypt
The package combines an AFD soft loan with an EU grant and forms part of the Sustainable Green Industries Programme.
The Innovators Support Fund launched the ‘Protect’ initiative to support inventors, researchers and entrepreneurs in Egypt with a full package of intellectual property services, legal guidance and patent-related funding. The programme is delivered in partnership with the Egyptian Patent Office, the Egyptian Knowledge Bank and Clarivate, the international firm specialising in patents and research intelligence. According to the announcement, ‘Protect’ offers a set of advantages for applicants: free legal consultations on patents and trademarks, full coverage of costs related to registering patents locally, support for international registration through the Patent Cooperation Treaty system, and technical training on how to prepare and submit applications. Participants also gain access to intellectual property specialists and tools for assessing the strength of their ideas. The initiative is open to innovators, researchers and owners of original projects who can demonstrate the novelty of their ideas. Those wishing to apply may do so through the Innovators Support Fund’s official website, where the application portal is available. The Fund emphasised that the programme is designed to help protect inventions from imitation, improve national awareness around intellectual property and expand support for innovations across academic, research and entrepreneurial sectors.
