Egypt Aims to Triple Local Smartphone Production by 2026
The Ministry of Communications targets 9 million locally manufactured phones within two years.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has announced plans to triple domestic smartphone production by 2026, aiming to manufacture nine million units annually—up from three million in 2024.
Minister of Communications Amr Talaat revealed that four of the world’s five largest smartphone manufacturers have already launched or committed to launching production lines in Egypt. The ministry is currently in talks with one or two additional global players, with new deals expected to materialise by 2025.
This expansion is part of a broader national strategy to bolster Egypt’s digital economy and localise high-tech manufacturing. The ministry has also highlighted smartphone production as a key component of Egypt's industrial development plan, aiming to reduce import dependence, support local job creation, and strengthen the country’s position in the regional electronics market.
In 2022, Samsung released their first batch of made-in-Egypt phones, which were manufactured at Samsung’s Beni Suef factory, their first plant in the Middle East. Another notable development is the establishment of a Vivo Telecom Technology Company facility in the 10th of Ramadan City, Sharqia Governorate. In addition, the Egyptian Silicon Industries Company (SICO) has commenced production of the country's first locally made 5G router at its factory in Assiut. SICO, known for producing Egypt's first fully home-made smartphone, is collaborating with the Chinese firm ToZed to develop this router.
By the end of 2024, Egypt’s mobile phone import bill dropped by 99.9%, down from USD 1.6 billion in 2021 to USD 1.65 million in the first half of 2024.
