Egypt Funded Medical Treatment for 2.3 Million Citizens in 2024

The Egyptian government has funded the medical treatment of over 2.3 million citizens in 2024, allocating EGP 24.2 billion to expand access to healthcare. The initiative supported more than 3.9 million medical procedures, including treatments for blood diseases, tumours, surgeries and gynecological conditions.

Efforts to streamline access to care saw over 7,450 patients utilising online application procedures, allowing them to bypass visits to the General Directorate for Specialized Medical Councils (SMC) offices. The state-funded medical services were delivered across ministry-affiliated hospitals, university hospitals, private institutions and charity hospitals.

Eligibility for these services was limited to uninsured patients, with assessments conducted at government hospitals to determine medical needs before treatment was authorised.
