Egypt Ranks Sixth in Africa for Proven Oil Reserves in 2026
With an estimated 3.3 billion barrels, Egypt places sixth in Africa and 26th globally for proven oil reserves.
Egypt has been ranked sixth in Africa for proven oil reserves in 2026, with estimated reserves of around 3.3 billion barrels, placing the country 26th worldwide, according to economic platform Business Africa.
The ranking situates Egypt within Africa’s top 10 oil-holding countries, led by Libya, which holds the continent’s largest proven reserves at 48.4 billion barrels and ranks ninth globally.
Nigeria and Algeria follow in second and third place across Africa, with Angola and South Sudan fourth and fifth respectively.
Egypt occupies sixth position, followed by the Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Gabon and Chad. The figures place Egypt’s oil reserves within a broader continental context where hydrocarbons remain a central economic resource.
Alongside oil, the country’s energy profile is supported by natural gas discoveries in the Mediterranean, which contribute to both domestic energy supply and export capacity.
