Egypt’s Child Population Reaches 39.7 Million in Early 2025
Egypt has the Arab region’s largest child population at 39.7 million under 18 in early 2025, while children globally number about 2.4 billion or 29.3% of people.
Egypt’s population of children aged under 18 reached 39.7 million in early 2025, representing 36.8% of the country’s total population, the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported. The update coincided with World Children’s Day.
The agency reported that there are around 2.4 billion children under 18 worldwide, equivalent to 29.3% of the global population. India has the largest child population, estimated at 430 million in 2025. The number of children displaced by conflict and violence worldwide rose to about 50 million in 2024, the highest on record.
In the Arab world, children number roughly 188.96 million, or 7.8% of all children globally, with Egypt home to the region’s largest child population in 2025. The national statistics agency said the figures sit alongside ongoing government programmes related to child protection, healthcare, education, and skill development, and affirmed alignment with the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.
