Egypt’s Telecom Sector Have Pumped USD 2.7 Billion Into 5G Since 2019

Egypt’s four licensed mobile operators have collectively invested USD 2.7 billion in 5G spectrum acquisition and network infrastructure since 2019, according to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The announcement, made during the 5G Technology Forum in Cairo, reflects Egypt’s ongoing efforts to deploy high-speed mobile connectivity across the country.

The rollout includes expanded 5G coverage zones, spectrum licensing, and upgrades to core network infrastructure. The goal is to lay the groundwork for advanced services in healthcare, manufacturing, education, and transportation, while improving mobile internet speeds and enabling future smart city applications.

Communications Minister Amr Talaat described the transition to 5G as a qualitative leap for Egypt’s connectivity landscape, adding that the network aligns with international spectrum standards and future tech requirements. The 5G deployment is expected to improve data capacity, reduce latency, and enable new digital services at scale.

Telecom Egypt, Orange Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, and Etisalat by e& are all involved in the rollout, with each operator expanding their respective infrastructure to accommodate 5G technology. Egypt’s first commercial 5G services are anticipated to become more widely available following the completion of ongoing pilot zones and regulatory approvals.
