Egyptian Health Budget Expanded for Mental Health Facilities

The Health Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives has approved an EGP 50 million expansion to the state budget for mental health hospitals. The total estimated allocation for mental health hospitals for the 2024/2025 fiscal year is EGP 1.4 billion, compared to EGP 1.1 billion for the current 2023/2024 fiscal year. Additionally, the budget for the Addiction Treatment and Control Fund for the 2024/2025 fiscal year amounted to approximately EGP 322 million.

The decision came after a meeting to discuss legislative projects linking the general state budget and the economic and social development plan for the upcoming year. Topics included the Ministry of Health and Population's General Office, the General Secretariat for Mental Health, therapeutic institutions, blood bank service development centres, the medical emergency fund, and the addiction treatment and control fund. Additionally, discussions covered projects concerning the Egyptian Health Council, the Egyptian Drug Authority, Medical Technology Management, Hospitals and Educational Institutes Authority, and the Egyptian Ambulance Authority.
