Electric & Hydrogen Powered Buses to Set off in Abu Dhabi in September
The move, the first of its kind in the capital, is part of Abu Dhabi’s goal of making 20% of public transport green by 2030.
A fleet of zero-emission electric and hydrogen-powered buses will be unveiled for the first time in Abu Dhabi in September. This move is aligned with Abu Dhabi’s goal of making 20% of public transport green by 2030, and raising that figure to 100% by 2050.
Although the number of new eco-friendly buses or the specific routes they will serve has not yet been disclosed, bus fares will remain unchanged. Charging stations have already been installed at bus depots. As part of the initiative, young Emirati engineers had been sent to China and South Korea to learn how to operate the new buses.
Unlike traditional fossil fuel-powered buses, electric and hydrogen-powered buses do not emit harmful pollutants or greenhouse gases. Hydrogen buses, in particular, only emit water vapour.
