European Parliament Calls for 'Permanent Ceasefire' in Gaza

The European Parliament has issued a call for a "permanent ceasefire" in Gaza, marking the first such call since October 7th. The resolution received approval with 312 votes in favour, 131 against, and 72 abstentions during today’s session in Strasbourg's plenary chamber. Although not legally binding, the resolution represents the parliamentary position.

This plea follows the parliament’s previous calls for a “humanitarian pause” and an increase in aid delivery. The earlier vote saw 500 approvals, 21 rejections, and 24 abstentions. The call is made against the backdrop of a rising death toll in Gaza, which has exceeded 24,000, as reported by the Palestinian Health Ministry.
