First Whole Lung Transplant in Egypt Performed at Ain Shams Hospital
Over 25 physicians have been preparing for this surgery over the past two months.

Ain Shams Specialised Hospital has performed the first successful whole lung transplant in Egypt. The patient - a woman suffering from acute respiratory failure - was given donated portions of lungs from her two brothers.
The procedure involved more than 25 physicians, as well as additional nurses and support workers, with two months of pre-op preparation. The operation was carried out in three operating rooms simultaneously over the course of 15 hours, with the help of a Japanese expert who came to Egypt specifically to supervise this surgery.
