Imhotep Museum Unveils Path for Visitors With Visual Impairments

The Imhotep Museum in Saqqara inaugurated an accessible path for individuals with visual impairments. In collaboration with the General Directorate of Museum Education, this initiative is part of an effort to develop the museum system and improve the experience for visitors.

As part of this project, 14 explanatory cards in Braille were installed to provide detailed information about the museum's key archaeological artefacts. Additional Braille cards offer insights into the museum's history and exhibit halls. The effort was tested with participants with visual impairments from the Sundus Foundation for Orphans with Special Needs, ensuring its effectiveness.

The Imhotep Museum, located at the archaeological site of Saqqara, features six halls spread across 1,500 square metres and houses over 300 artifacts, primarily from the Third Dynasty. Notably, the museum also honours the legacy of French archaeologist Jean-Philippe Lauer, who dedicated his life to restoring the Step Pyramid of Djoser.
