Industrial Zone for Clothing & Textiles to Be Established in Minya
A 5.5 million sqm industrial city in Upper Egypt will house 600 factories and generate up to one million jobs.

The Egyptian government has allocated 5.5 million square metres in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Minya for the development of a major industrial zone dedicated to clothing and textile manufacturing, according to the Apparel Export Council of Egypt.
The zone will include more than 600 factories and is expected to create between 800,000 to 1 million direct and indirect jobs in the coming years. A key focus of the project is empowering women in Minya and neighbouring governorates by integrating them into the workforce and supporting local economic development.
The initiative supports Egypt’s goal of increasing annual textile and apparel exports to USD 12 billion by 2030. In 2024, textile exports rose by 18%, reaching USD 2.8 billion. The council now aims for an annual growth rate of 20–25%, with strategic expansion into the US and European markets. Exports to those regions rose by 34% and 17%, respectively, last year.
The new industrial city is positioned as a cornerstone of Egypt’s broader efforts to strengthen its manufacturing base, boost employment in Upper Egypt, and reinforce the country’s status as a global supplier in the textile and apparel sector.
