NEOM Green Hydrogen Project Aims to Supply 10% of Global Demand

The world’s largest green hydrogen production facility is set to be established in NEOM. The facility, a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s clean energy strategy, is set to contribute 10% of the global green hydrogen production targets.

The announcement of this new facility was made at the Saudi Green Initiative Forum, held alongside the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Riyadh. The Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Alkhorayef, presented several initiatives aimed at advancing sustainability across its industrial sectors. One such initiative, the Liquid Fuel Displacement Program, launched earlier this year, is designed to reduce the carbon footprint of industrial facilities nationwide.

In addition to clean energy, Saudi Arabia is focusing on responsible resource management in its burgeoning mining sector. The Kingdom's mineral resources are valued at USD 2.5 trillion, and sustainable mining practices are a key priority. The phosphate mine in Wa’ad Al-Shamal serves as a model, adhering to strict environmental safety standards while fostering community development.

In other sectors, Saudi Arabia is also transforming raw materials into high-value products, such as the conversion of bauxite into aluminum. This innovation is crucial for industries like aviation and automotive manufacturing, where aluminum is a key component.

Another major development is the international Future Minerals Forum, which serves as a platform for addressing global challenges in the mining sector. The forum highlights sustainability practices, explores innovative financing solutions, and promotes international collaborations to ensure responsible resource extraction worldwide.
