New 'Our Mosques are Green' Initiative to Plant 50,000 Trees
The campaign plans to plant 50,000 trees around mosques in Al Baha as part of the Saudi Green Initiative.
The 'Our Mosques are Green' initiative, led by Minister of Islamic Affairs Abdullatif Al Sheikh, has just been launched with plans to plant 50,000 trees around mosques in the Al Baha region. The campaign aligns with the broader Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2021.
The SGI focuses on emission reduction, afforestation, and land regeneration, striving to unite the kingdom's efforts against climate change. With this new project, the Saudi government aims to enhance vegetation cover around mosques, contributing to both sustainability and community wellbeing.
The initiative is also part of a comprehensive approach to reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy, targeting 50% of the kingdom’s electricity production from renewable sources by 2030.
