Over 7.9 Million Children Screened for Hearing Loss Since 2019

Egypt’s national hearing screening programme has provided services to 7,909,570 children since its launch in September 2019, the Ministry of Health and Population announced. The initiative—part of a broader presidential health campaign—focuses on the early detection and treatment of hearing loss in newborns across the country.

The ministry reported that 426,700 of the children screened were referred for re-examination a week after their initial test, while 53,917 were subsequently referred to specialist centres for more detailed evaluation and treatment.

To support the growing demand, the number of auditory referral hospitals and centres has increased from 30 to 34 nationwide. These facilities are equipped with modern diagnostic tools and are prepared to provide follow-up care, including hearing aids and cochlear implants where necessary.
