Private Sector Minimum Wage in Egypt Raised to EGP 6,000
The increase will go into effect starting May 2024 according to the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
The National Wages Council has announced an increase in the minimum wage for private sector workers to EGP 6,000, effective from May 2024, as per a statement released today, April 7th, by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hala El Said, stated, "The increase in the minimum wage comes in the context of ensuring the interests of workers, especially amidst recent developments and economic changes both domestically and internationally."
The minimum wage for private sector workers has undergone several adjustments. Starting at EGP 2,400 in January 2022, it was raised to EGP 2,700 in January 2023, further increased to EGP 3,000 in July 2023. In January 2024, it climbed to EGP 3,500 and now stands at EGP 6,000, encompassing all wage components, including the employer's contribution to social insurance.
The minimum wage for public sector employees was also recently raised to EGP 6,000 in February 2024.
