RTA Announces AED 1.5 Billion Project to Upgrade Al Fay Street

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced an AED 1.5 billion project to upgrade Al Fay Street, increasing its capacity to 64,400 vehicles per hour. The development involves five major intersections, 13,500 metres of bridges and 12,900 metres of roads, enhancing connectivity for residential and commercial areas such as Dubai Sports City, Jumeirah Village Circle and DAMAC Lagoons.

The first phase, expected to finish by 2027, includes a two-lane bridge at the Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road intersection, spanning 1,255 metres with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. Two additional bridges, spanning 2,040 metres and accommodating 6,400 vehicles per hour, will connect Jumeirah Village Circle. The second phase, forecasted to conclude in 2028, will introduce advanced intersections and grade-separated service roads for improved traffic management.

Key components include a four-lane bridge at the roundabout between Dubai Sports City and Dubai Production City, spanning 960 metres with a capacity of 14,400 vehicles per hour. This intersection will also feature a 780-metre service road accommodating 3,200 vehicles per hour. At Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, a three-lane bridge in each direction will span 1,400 metres, handling 9,600 vehicles per hour, while a five-lane bridge will add capacity for 9,000 vehicles per hour. Two grade-separated service roads, each spanning 1,400 metres, will collectively accommodate 9,600 vehicles per hour.

Additional upgrades include a two-lane bridge at Emirates Road for left-turn traffic from Al Fay Street, spanning 1,000 metres with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour, and another bridge spanning 1,150 metres for traffic in the opposite direction with the same capacity. The fifth intersection provides direct access from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Dubai Production City, featuring two two-lane bridges spanning 2,250 metres and accommodating 6,400 vehicles per hour.
