Registration for Ultra Ibex’s Wadi Degla Ultra Trail Now Open
Get in amongst the tough terrain of Wadi Degla, with routes suited to all ability levels on offer.
If this wintry weather has you itching to get your body moving, then perhaps a physical challenge under the springtime sun in Maadi’s Wadi Degla is what you need. Ultra Ibex, an all-terrain race organiser founded in Egypt in 2022, has opened registration for this year’s Wadi Degla Ultra Trail.
This adventurous outdoor event will be set amongst the diverse landscapes of the Wadi Degla Protectorate. Aside from just organising the event, Ultra Ibex also aims to promote conservation and the enjoyment of sustainable outdoor sports.
Taking place on March 9th, Ultra Ibex will offer several routes to suit all ability levels, allowing all participants to experience the peaks and troughs of Wadi Degla’s canyons and martian-esque terrain. The shortest option will be a 10 km route with around 150m of overall elevation gain, suitable for beginners who want to give trail running a go. The 30 km route will require around 500m of climbing, and will be better suited to intermediate runners with some experience of trail running. The longest route of the day will cover 50 km and demand over 800m of climbing, billed as “an exciting adventure for more experienced runners.”
The overall route is made up of 70% hard dirt trails and 30% sandy and rocky areas, promising a challenging terrain whilst preserving the ancient landscape that Wadi Degla is so famous for. To register for the event visit the official Ultra Ibex website.
