Riyadh Metro Records Over 18 Million Passengers in Two Months

Over 18 million passengers have boarded Riyadh’s new metro since its launch on December 1st, 2024. More than 162,000 trips have been completed along the metro’s six-line network, covering about 4.5 million kilometres thus far.

The most popular line, serving nearly 10 million passengers since December, is the Blue Line running north-south parallel to Riyadh’s densely populated Olaya street.

The Riyadh Metro’s driverless trains span 176 kilometres across Riyadh with 85 stations strategically spread across the city, and are integrated in accordance with the Riyadh Bus Network. Trains hold a max capacity of 3.6 million passengers a day .

The project, which cost over USD 22 billion, aims to reduce congestion, lower carbon emission, and promote more environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
